bedded into the sand.

cast,leans against the wall to cool off before having the burnt on sand
is shotblasted off.

'Fettling' removes all
the excess metal of runners and risers and smooths the joint lines.

This was one of six statues
exhibited in Norway. The figure is surrounded by sand and then removed
from the mould to leave a cavity to be filled with iron.

The top half of the mould
is being prepared. Sand is used for its detail and resistance to the temperature
of the molten iron at 1400+deg. C

The mould is turned over and
split so the pattern can be removed. The Artist himself was the model to
make the pattern. The pattern was made in the Artist's studio
|

Unfortunately sometimes
things go wrong and we are left with scrap castings on our hands.
